Inter-faith Week 2019
To mark Inter-Faith week 2019 we organised an inter-faith walk in Gravesend on Saturday 16 November.
We met at the Church of the Latter-Day Saints where after some refreshments Bishop Greg Kitsell told us about the origins and current practice of the Mormon church. Armed with litter pickers and bags we then walked to Tivoli House, Windmill Street and heard about its past use as a synagogue and Jewish school, reaffirming our rejection of all antisemitism. Next stop was on the top of Windmill Hill where Gravesend Pagans demonstrated one of their ceremonies and Megan Manson explained its significance. We then walked down to Holy Trinity school, still collecting litter, to acknowledge the importance of education in all religions. From there we continued to the Gurdwara where Jagdev Virdee told us about the history of Sikhism on this significant date - Guru Nanak's 550th birthday. We then went inside the Gurdwara and enjoyed a tour and then ate food together in the Langar hall.
This event aimed to draw people of different faiths closer together in mutual respect and understanding, and in working together to serve our community. We think it succeeded - but we can do better next year! Watch this space!
