Inter-faith Week 2018
Inter-faith week 2018 saw the first of what we hope will be an annual inter-faith walk in Gravesend. Saturday 17 November was bright and sunny, ideal weather for a bit of exercise. Around 30 people, of different faiths, gathered at the Albion Street mosque. After we had heard a fascinating talk about Islam and partaken of very generous hospitality, we then walked to Gravesend Methodist Church where we were able to see not only their worship space but also their facilities for helping poor and homeless people. Our next stop was the Mandir in Manor Road, opened less than a year before and so a new experience for most of us. The visually striking deities were explained to us, and we had a chance to ask questions and enjoy food. Our final destination was the Gurdwara. Here we were given a short talk about Sikhism, before going upstairs to witness worship taking place, and then onto the Langar room where cups of tea and lots of food were waiting for us.
All those who took part in the Walk found it an enriching and insightful experience. Next year we need to allow a bit longer, as we ran out of time at each venue. Also we all need to remember to bring a very large appetite!
